Dena Mentis

There are many business writers who write about real estate, but not many have had careers dealing with it. And even fewer have dealt with new home construction, specializing in writing about that aspect of the American Dream. After having spent 14 years in the new homes industry, my enthusiasm for the builder/developer world began to blossom into expression, and the result is what you see here.
I write about new homes, not previously lived-in varieties. Newspapers all over the United States report on the health of the economy using statistics for new housing starts as a bellwether for economic forecasts, giving it the status, along with unemployment figures and investment earnings, of the straw that stirs the soup, so to speak.

80% of the nearly 200,000 new homes built every year are on builder-owned land, according to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The other 20% are on individually owned parcels for which custom homes are planned. Consumers are demanding more information on new home purchases, construction methods, environmentally safe building products, automated home systems, trends and design than ever before, making the subject both fascinating and newsworthy.
